The Art of Business is a luncheon series featuring business people presenting a topic of interest highlighting how commercial enterprise spurred and funded artistic endeavors. Emphasis is on the history of Europe from Ancien Greece to the mid-20th century with topics showcasing the intersection of culture and commerce.

MAY 4th 2017: Albina Shagimuratova, a coloratura soprano 

Albina was in Houston to sing the role of Konstanze in Houston Grand Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio (April 28-May 12 at the Wortham Center).
In her Art of Business presentation she shared her experiences in the business of being a singer and performing at the world’s leading opera houses in some of the repertoire’s most demanding roles.  Her training included two years in the Houston Grand Opera Studio.
 
 

March 6th 2017: Sebastien Laboureau, curator of France Pavilion

Make your passion for art a successful business

Sebastien Laboureau, long-time, art enthusiast and experienced art collector will share his experience during a 2h luncheon. Sebastien Laboureau is an art consultant located both in Miami and Paris, with partners in Latin-America and Asia, trusted advisor of private collectors, and various institutions all over the world. As a respected and independent expert on the art market, he is a keynote speaker to various private banks, art fairs and public institutions to give lectures and conferences on the art market and on selected art history topics.

 

December 6th 2016: Bruce Partterson

Striking the Right Chord when Protecting Intellectual property 

Bruce Patterson is a partner in the intellectual property law firm of Patterson & Sheridan, LLP. Since learning to play acoustic guitar in his youth, Bruce’s passion remains music including performing at venues around Houston. In his presentation, Bruce described how Patterson & Sheridan, LLP helps businesses to identify hidden gems of intellectual property and takes steps to thwart infringers
